Berna Demiralp, PhD

Dr. Demiralp is a Principal Research Associate at KNG Health Consulting and Director of the Evaluation and Health Economics practice. She is an applied microeconomist with expertise in health, labor and demographic economics. She specializes in evaluating the effects of health care policy and interventions, and has extensive experience in designing and implementing program evaluations. She has applied her expertise to evaluating Medicare programs and alternative payment models; analyzing cost, utilization, and patient outcomes associated with acute and post-acute care; examining the comparative effectiveness of long-term care hospitals in caring for critically ill patients; and assessing the cost-effectiveness of treatment alternatives. She has conducted studies assessing the effects of Medicare’s Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program and Accountable Care Organizations. Dr. Demiralp is currently leading KNG Health team’s task in monitoring the performance of Maryland’s new All-Payer model. Dr. Demiralp has published in peer-reviewed journals including Medical Care, Health Services Research, American Journal of Medical Quality, and others. Prior to joining KNG Health Consulting, Dr. Demiralp held positions in Optimal Solutions Group, Summit Consulting, and Old Dominion University. She received her Ph.D. in economics from Johns Hopkins University and her B.A. from Davidson College.
