Legislative Update: June 4, 2019
Now is the Time: Urge Congress to Support Home Health Measures
Lawmakers return to Washington this week after the Memorial Day holiday and will now be in session until late June. Throughout the month of June, lawmakers will likely turn their attention toward determining priorities around which Medicare legislation to vote on in key Committees.
As part of this work, lawmakers will evaluate whether or not legislative proposals have strong support, including how many lawmakers support the proposal. Now is a critical time to urge your local lawmakers to sign on as a supporter of the House and Senate “PDGM relief” bills (H.R. 2573/S. 433).
H.R. 2573/S. 433 will strengthen the new Medicare Patient-Driven Groupings Model (PDGM) by prohibiting CMS from reducing payment for Medicare home health services based on faulty assumptions. The legislation will also waive homebound rules for certain Medicare beneficiaries.
To date, H.R. 2573 has 11 cosponsors and S. 433 has 14 supporters. To move these bills forward, it is imperative that we secure more Congressional supporters. We encourage you to email a short note to your Senator or local Representative to ask them to sign on as a cosponsor of the legislation. To help with this outreach, follow these simple steps:
- Locate the lead health policy contacts for the Senate by clicking here and House Member from your area by clicking here.
- Use this suggested message as a template for Senate and House outreach and tailor it to fit your organization.
- Email it directly to the health policy staff contact.
It makes a big difference for Congressional Members and their staff to hear directly from home health providers in their home state. Thank you for taking time to help move this critical legislation forward.
