Legislative Update: May 7, 2019

Right before the recent Congressional recess on April 9, Rep. Janice Schakowsky (D-IL-9) and Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA-1) introduced the House companion of the “Home Care Planning Improvement Act (H.R. 2150).” H.R. 2150 would allow nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, certified nurse midwives, and physician assistants to order Medicare home health care services for eligible Medicare beneficiaries. This is identical to legislation that was introduced in the Senate earlier this year (S. 296).

ElevatingHOME has supported similar proposals introduced in the previous Congress and fully endorses this legislation. Currently, H.R. 2150 has 33 bipartisan cosponsors. The Senate version of the legislation, S. 296, has 24 bipartisan cosponsors.

We will continue to provide updates on these critical proposals, and we urge VNAA and ElevatingHOME members to contact Congress to ask for support of these important legislative initiatives. Click here for the latest update on the status of ElevatingHOME legislative priorities.
